Go Solar!

Eighteen solar panels and a string inverter plus optimizers under each panel comprise this 4,680-watt system, installed as part of a community solar program. We’re including a “before” photo of the home because the sky was so cool that day!

Solar Skating Rink

Written on May 25, 2016 at 9:02 pm, by

Just kidding, the ice in this rink wasn’t solar-generated, as you may have guessed. New England temperatures take care of making the ice and keeping it frozen. But how often do we get to photograph someone skating in front of a solar energy system we installed? This 22-panel system generates enough electricity to cover about […]

Solar Ideal

This hard-to-photograph system has 29 panels spread across 3 roofs, each with a different azimuth and pitch. Solar financials are tied to the “solar friendliness” of your roof. This roof is 82% of ideal, on the low side, and yet it cuts the homeowner’s electricity rate more than in half, and delivers about $180 in […]

This 30-panel system is producing most of this home’s electricity, at a low price that is essentially locked in for 20 years by Clean Energy’s Performance Warranty. The system features high-powered, attractive all-black SunPower 335-watt panels. The customer offers this comment on independent website Solar Reviews: “New England Clean Energy was not pushy. Very responsive, […]

Full of Knowledge

Closely situated homes in the suburbs can be great for solar, as long as your neighbor’s roof doesn’t shade yours for most of the day. This roof is so good that the system will be paid off in less than 8 years, and the homeowner’s electricity price has dropped to about 6¢, locked in for […]

A Better Bargain

Written on May 13, 2016 at 6:27 pm, by

The homeowners of this Colonial-style house received about $22,000 off the price of their solar energy system, thanks to state and federal tax credits. Between tax credits, “SREC” income and electricity savings, solar is a better bargain than ever. The system was installed on two roofs, as the early schematic drawing shows.

We Like Dogs!

This 20-panel system is producing all the electricity the home needs, and reducing the owner’s electricity price from the 20¢ she was paying Eversource to 12¢, locked in for 25 years. The customer says this about working with us:  “I had New England Clean Energy install my solar panels. I found them to be excellent […]

Complex Installation

Written on May 13, 2016 at 5:47 pm, by

This complex system was installed on four sections of roof, each with a different pitch and azimuth, including one flat section. All together, the system has 37 SunPower 345-watt panels and is generating more than 13,000 kilowatt-hours of clean power per year.

Clean Condo

Solar energy systems can be installed on condos, but it does require a little extra effort. In most cases, the Condo Association must approve the installation. In this case the system covers part of the neighbor’s roof, so that required permission, too. The system has 31 SunPower 345-watt panels. Its 10,695 watts produce almost 13,000 […]

Skirting the Vent Pipes

Written on May 12, 2016 at 8:46 pm, by

We often skirt vent pipes (or move them) when installing solar energy systems. For this farmhouse, we skirted five! The solar generated from the roof costs about 8¢ per kWh, for 25 years, compared to the 23¢ this homeowner pays Unitil for electricity — a price that will most likely continue to rise. (Hope you […]
