Net Metering is Not a Subsidy

MassSolarMy friend and solar industry colleague Emily Rochon at MassSolar penned a piece for CommonWealth Magazine last Friday, which I want to share. If you’ve been following the solar net metering debate at all, chances are the numbers, assertions, rhetoric and claims from both sides of the debate have your head spinning and your eyes glazing over. Emily’s piece is straightforward and clear. It cuts to the chase. If you’re engaged at all in solar’s future, I recommend a read. Here’s a taste:

“CONTRARY TO UTILITY ASSERTIONS, net metering is not a subsidy.  It’s a mechanism  that allows solar owners to receive credit, similar to rollover minutes on a cell phone plan, for power they feed into the grid.”
