Solar Repair and Maintenance Service
Common Solar Repair and Maintenance Issues
As your solar system ages, typically around 5 to 10 years, it’s natural for certain repair and maintenance issues to arise. Addressing these promptly ensures that your system continues to operate efficiently and delivers the energy savings you expect.
We’ve owned our system for almost 8 years and had an Enphase microinverter fail. Enphase sent me a replacement microinverter and the search began to find someone to do the work as the original installers are now in PA. After multiple contacts, I found New England Clean Energy who quickly responded and I have to say, they are terrific! Definitely recommend them if you are a Massachusetts solar system owner or one looking for a new installation.
Great communications with a great service team!! The team that came to do the replacement were extremely friendly, knowledgeable and highly professional.
I will definitely call on these folks for any future needs!
5 Star service from start to finish!!
I can’t tell you how amazing it has been to work with Jessica! She has been a ROCKSTAR in helping to resolve an issue with my system not auto reporting after the meter was swapped out from 3G to 4G! Her persistence in dealing with all the relevant parties to make this happen has been extremely impressive!
I didn’t purchase my system originally through NECE (that installer neglected to mention until after holes were drilled into my brand new roof that I’d need to spend another $7K on tree removal that was never used in their ROI calculations nor discussed during the entire sales process). But based on my interactions with Jessica and the tech who replaced our meter, I wish I’d used NECE for my original installation! What a pleasure it’s been to work with smart, competent, service-oriented solar professionals!
Common Issues with Aging Solar Systems
- Degraded Panels: Over time, solar panels can suffer from wear and tear due to exposure to the elements. This may lead to reduced efficiency, physical damage, or discoloration, all of which can impact performance.
- Cracked Panels: Falling branches, hail, or other impacts can cause cracks in solar panels. Even minor cracks can lead to significant efficiency loss or further damage if not addressed promptly.
- Inverter Problems: The inverter, which converts solar energy into usable electricity, is generally the most vulnerable component in a solar system. Inverters from 10 to 15 years ago typically have a lifespan of around 10 years while more recent inverters are generally warrantied for 25 years. However, as with all electronics, issues can include loss of efficiency, overheating, or even complete failure.
- Wiring and Connection Issues: Over time, wiring can degrade or suffer damage from pests, weather, or corrosion. Loose connections can lead to system failures or reduced output.
- Roof Leaks: If your solar system was not properly installed, roof leaks can develop, especially around the mounting points. This can cause significant damage to your property if not addressed promptly.
- Monitoring System Failures: Older systems may have outdated monitoring software or hardware, making it difficult to track performance or identify issues.
- Solar Panel Failure Rates:.
The Value of Regular Maintenance and Timely Repairs
Regular inspections and doing any required maintenance or prompt repairs are crucial to extending the life of your solar system and ensuring it operates at peak efficiency. Addressing minor issues before they become major problems can save you money in the long run and prevent costly system failures.
In many cases, replacing broken or outdated components is more cost-effective than repairing them. For example, upgrading to a newer, more efficient inverter or replacing old partially degraded panels can provide better performance and greater energy savings than attempting to repair older technology.
