ConnectedSolutions+

If you’ve been thinking about adding battery storage to your home, there’s exciting news for certain Massachusetts homeowners. National Grid has launched ConnectedSolutions+, an enhanced battery incentive program that offers significantly higher incentives than the traditional ConnectedSolutions program—but only in select areas of Massachusetts.

Depending on where you live, this new program could mean thousands of dollars in additional incentives for installing an eligible home battery.

Here’s what you need to know.

What Is National Grid ConnectedSolutions+?

ConnectedSolutions+

ConnectedSolutions Plus is an enhanced battery incentive program from National Grid designed to encourage homeowners to install battery storage in areas where it can provide the greatest benefit to the electric grid.

Like the traditional ConnectedSolutions program, homeowners earn incentives by allowing their battery system to discharge stored energy during periods of peak electricity demand. These events help reduce strain on the grid while providing homeowners with ongoing financial incentives.

ConnectedSolutions Plus builds on that concept by offering larger incentives in select Massachusetts communities where additional battery capacity is especially valuable.

How Is ConnectedSolutions+ Different From Traditional ConnectedSolutions?

The traditional National Grid ConnectedSolutions program provides homeowners with annual incentive payments based on their battery’s average performance during demand response events.

Currently, the traditional incentive is:

  • $275 per average kW of battery performance
  • Paid annually over a five-year enrollment period

For many FranklinWH battery installations, that adds up to approximately:

≈ $5,500 over five years

ConnectedSolutions+ increases those incentives in qualifying locations by offering:

  • Higher annual performance incentives
  • In some communities, an additional upfront rebate

The exact incentive depends on your address.

Which Communities Offer the Highest Battery Incentives?

While ConnectedSolutions+ is available in select areas of several Massachusetts communities, the incentive structure isn’t the same everywhere.

According to estimates shared by Enphase, some locations offer significantly larger upfront rebates, while others have a larger number of eligible homes.

Highest Incentives: Bridgewater & Medford

ConnectedSolutions+

For homeowners in qualifying areas of Bridgewater and Medford, the program currently offers some of the highest potential incentives available.

These communities are estimated to offer:

  • $7,500 upfront rebate
  • $300 per average kW annual ConnectedSolutions performance incentive

For a typical FranklinWH battery system, that could mean:

Traditional ConnectedSolutions

  • Approximately $5,500 over five years

ConnectedSolutions+

  • Approximately $13,500 over five years

That’s roughly $8,000 more than the traditional ConnectedSolutions program.

Although these communities offer some of the largest incentives, Enphase estimates there are approximately 3,000 eligible homes in each area.

Other Strong Incentive Opportunities

ConnectedSolutions+

Several additional communities also offer enhanced incentives through ConnectedSolutions+.

Qualifying areas of the following communities are estimated to receive:

  • Worcester
  • Salem
  • Lynn
  • Malden
  • Palmer
  • Plainville
  • Ware

Estimated incentives include:

  • $5,000 upfront rebate
  • $300 per average kW annual performance incentive

For many homeowners, this still represents a significant increase over the traditional ConnectedSolutions incentive.

Largest Eligible Market: Nantucket

ConnectedSolutions+

Interestingly, Nantucket appears to have the largest estimated market for ConnectedSolutions Plus, with approximately 13,000 eligible homes.

While the upfront incentive is lower than Bridgewater and Medford, homeowners in qualifying areas may still receive enhanced battery incentives compared to the standard ConnectedSolutions program.

This highlights an important point: the best incentive isn’t necessarily available in the largest community. Incentives vary based on the specific needs of the local electric grid.

Where Is ConnectedSolutions+ Available?

ConnectedSolutions+ is currently available in select areas of the following Massachusetts communities:

  • Barre-Athol
  • Bridgewater
  • East Longmeadow & Hampden
  • Foxborough
  • Lynn
  • Malden
  • Medford
  • Millbury
  • Nantucket
  • Palmer
  • Plainville
  • Salem
  • Ware
  • Whitman
  • Worcester

Important: Eligibility is not determined by your town alone.

In many cases, only certain neighborhoods or electrical circuits within these communities qualify for ConnectedSolutions Plus. Incentive amounts also vary by location, with some areas receiving higher performance incentives and others qualifying for both ongoing payments and an upfront rebate.

Why Is National Grid Offering Higher Battery Incentives?

ConnectedSolutions+

As more homes and businesses electrify with technologies like heat pumps, electric vehicles, and battery storage, demand on the electric grid continues to increase.

Rather than building new infrastructure everywhere it’s needed, utilities can often reduce peak demand by strategically using distributed battery storage.

During periods of high electricity use—typically hot summer afternoons—participating batteries discharge stored energy to help support the grid. This reduces strain on the electrical system while helping avoid costly infrastructure upgrades, improving reliability for everyone.

ConnectedSolutions Plus targets the areas where additional battery capacity can have the greatest impact, which is why incentive amounts vary from one community to another.

Why Pair Battery Storage With Solar?

While batteries can be installed without solar panels, many homeowners choose to combine the two.

Pairing solar with battery storage can help you:

  • Keep essential appliances running during power outages
  • Store excess solar energy for use at night or during peak utility demand
  • Reduce reliance on the electric grid
  • Increase your home’s energy independence
  • Maximize available battery incentives

Together, solar panels and battery storage create a more resilient, flexible home energy system.

Is Your Home Eligible?

ConnectedSolutions+

Because ConnectedSolutions+ is only available in select National Grid service areas, eligibility depends on your specific address—not simply your town.

Two homes located just a few streets apart may qualify for different incentive levels.

That’s why it’s important to verify eligibility before planning your project.

At New England Clean Energy, we can determine whether your home qualifies for ConnectedSolutions+, explain the incentives available at your address, and help you choose the right battery system for your energy goals.
