Mark DurrenbergerMark Durrenberger, President and Founder

Mark, New England Clean Energy’s founder and president, started thinking about energy in high school when Jimmy Carter put solar panels on the white house. After a stint as a nuclear engineer, IT professional, and management consultant, in 2006, he finally saw the (sun)light and started New England Clean Energy. His company installs solar electric systems and solar-charged batteries on homes and small businesses. They’ve installed thousands of systems over eastern Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Southern New Hampshire and Southern Maine.

In 2006, Mark was trained by Al Gore to deliver Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth” presentation and quickly presented more than a 1,000 people at  churchs, community groups, and schools. Now Mark speaks and trains about solar, renewable energy, energy efficiency and net zero homes at continuing education programs for the Home Builders and Remodelers of Central and Western Massachusetts.

Mark has a master’s degree in Energy Engineering and a bachelor’s in Nuclear Engineering from University of Massachusetts at Lowell. Mark lives in Hudson and is active in solar policy development, and the community. He is a member of the comedy improv troupe “Off Brand Improv” and regularly performs in the area. He is also an avid wood turner and is president of the Central New England Woodturners Association. He has been married 35 years, has 30-year old triplets and a bunch of cats.
