Ellen of Northborough: Solar Electric
“It’s not just about making the money back. It’s also an investment in the future. For my generation, it’s just what we do.”
As a self-proclaimed “Baby Buster”—the post Baby Boom generation—Ellen remembers learning about environmental responsibility in elementary school. Even then, she loved the idea of creating power from nature. So by the time she was an adult with the financial resources, installing a solar electric system was a no-brainer.
After researching solar companies and talking to three, she chose New England Clean Energy to install a 3,960-watt system on her Northborough, MA, home.
“New England Clean Energy knows what they’re doing,” Ellen says. “They did an excellent job on a difficult installation, and they showed up when they said they would. They were willing to customize the system to our needs (living back in the woods, wild animal issues) instead of just treating our house like it was in a suburban sub-division. You can’t ask for more.”
Her solar array has lived up to her expectations. Her family of four benefits from lower electric bills while doing their small part in the fight against global warming. The past year was her best since installing the 24-panel system in 2008, due to the minimal snowfall during the 2011-2012 winter.
“Solar does cost a lot, but it’s well worth the investment,” Ellen says. “And it’s not just about making the money back. It’s also an investment in the future. For my generation, it’s just what we do.”
